Hon. Colonial Secretary,
MEDSORES SAMBATANG JAPON
I now hear that there is every chance of
Mr. Pestonji leaving the service (from quite an independent source). I cannot allow this to happen without informing Govern- ment that he is probably the best clerk in the Colony, and that his duties are as responsible as those of any one in the
olerical service.
I have already lost two good clerks this year and submit that the facts show the inadequacy of salaries in the Treasury as compared with the 0.8.0. and Mercantile Firas.
I would therefore urge upon His Excel- lency the question of reconsidering this decision of the Secretary of State.
11th. November, 1903,
(sa.) A. M. Thouson,
Treasurer.
